When you participate in a vendor show or craft fair, you may be surrounded by other vendors selling similar products. You need to figure out a way to increase your visibility so the consumers come to you and not your competitor. Don’t get lost in the crowd by not putting the same amount of effort into yourself and your booth aesthetics as you do your merchandise. |
Be nice. It's crazy I would even have to say this... but seriously! If you aren't projecting a positive attitude, your potential customers will walk right on by. The moment you see someone stop to catch a glimpse of what you are selling, you should immediately engage them. Even something as simple as a hello with a genuine smile is enough to draw them closer. If you have a good sense of humor, this would be a good time to put it to good use. Put that phone down and your eyes up! Eye contact people!
Implement color. Draw their attention away from other vendors and the boring background, so take advantage of bright colors that will complement the items you have for sale. Don’t get stuck in the habit of using white tables and white table cloths. The majority of other vendors will have them as well, so with a colorful table or canopy, you will be more likely to bring their attention in the right direction: yours.
Have a large sign with your name or your business’s name. Put your artistic skills to good use and create an eye-catching display that not only lets the customer know you are talented with a simple glance, but also lets them know who they are buying from. If possible, you could also include an image of your most popular product as well! It's important that they can take away the your name or name of your business if nothing else!
Employ the help of a friend or partner. While you man the table and process sales, they can stand out in front to draw people in with conversation or tidbits of information about your products. They can also answer any questions your potential customers may have while you are busy running the register. It's a lot easier to take a break when you have someone helping you out! (Breaks are so important on those long days!)
A vendor show or craft fair can be a hectic, yet rewarding, experience. You're most likely paying for a spot... so you should do everything in your power to draw as many customers to you over the many competitors that you can. More customers = more money, and who doesn't want that?!
Tell us in a comment ... how do YOU stand out from the crowd??
